  • The most important thing would be to know the size of the room or space you would like to furnish. If you would like to match the color of your woodwork or a piece you have already, it is helpful to bring a wood sample along or have a good picture available.
  • Rustic refers to knots and other imperfections. Most wood species are available as rustic or clear (no knots). Rustic is generally more inexpensive since a wider grade of wood is used. Rustic pieces can have the knots left open or filled with an epoxy. Knots left open are not greater than 1” in diameter and do not go all the way through the board.
  • No, but with proper care it can remain beautiful for a long time. Any finish can be scratched, but we use the best finishes available to protect against moisture like spills and also scratching. Ask us about the different types of finishes available for your furniture.

A Brief History of Dakota County
Established in 1849, Dakota County is one of Minnesota’s original nine counties. Named after the Dakota Sioux people, the area was historically significant due to its location at the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers. Mendota, directly across from Fort Snelling, became the first European settlement in Minnesota. The county seat was initially in Kaposia (1853), moved to Mendota (1854), and finally settled in Hastings in 1857, where it remains today. Over the years, Dakota County has evolved from a hub of fur trade and agriculture to a vibrant suburban area, reflecting a blend of historical significance and modern development.
