What is rustic wood in Amish furniture?
- Rustic refers to knots and other imperfections. Most wood species are available as rustic or clear (no knots). Rustic is generally more inexpensive since a wider grade of wood is used. Rustic pieces can have the knots left open or filled with an epoxy. Knots left open are not greater than 1” in diameter and do not go all the way through the board.
Is Amish furniture scratch proof?
- No, but with proper care it can remain beautiful for a long time. Any finish can be scratched, but we use the best finishes available to protect against moisture like spills and also scratching. Ask us about the different types of finishes available for your furniture.

Shakopee’s history is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Dakota people, particularly the Mdewakanton band. The city’s name honors Chief Shakopee II, a prominent leader whose legacy reflects the area’s rich indigenous heritage. Established as a trading post in 1851 by Thomas A. Holmes, Shakopee quickly grew into a vibrant community, officially incorporating in 1857. Despite challenges during the Dakota War, the city reestablished itself in 1870 and has since evolved into a dynamic Twin Cities suburb.
